Wave Jam

This is an exciting format, where a number of riders ride for a set time (normally 20 mins). After this time the other competitors on the beach, vote on who they think were riding the best and award 1st, 2nd, 3rd or advance those riders to next round.
e.g. If the max of 32 riders enter, 8 will go out for 20 mins. There names, kite colour brand etc will be posted on the notice board on the beach. After 20 mins the signal will end the heat and the other riders who are watching mark next to the 4 riders who they think were riding the best. These then advance to the 10 rider semis with the top 4 from next heat.
Losing riders go into round 2 heats, with the winners moving into the 10 rider semis.
You must judge each heat you are not competing in, except when you are in the next heat!

A Race series on a couple of weekends at 2 different venues-

  • Course Racing - CANCELLED :-(
    - The engine for one of the race support boats has been stolen, so we have no choice but to cancel the race event :-(
Details of the first event below
St Austel bay (par) with the help of Porthpean Sailing club and Mounts Bay (marazion) with help from MBSC.
Thinking 3 races at each venue with 4 races counting towards the Overall Result.
This needs interest to run as well as a few volunteers to help with time keeping etc.
We already have rescue boats and committee boats lined up but if anyone can offer rescue cover or whatever any help will be appreciated.
If you are interested email chairman@kernowkitesurfclub.co.uk ,subject -course race and include contact details (mobile no.) and KKC member no.
There will be prizes for Top 3 Overall, 1st ladie, 1st junior, 1st TT, 1st Surfboard as well as others so plenty for all. There will be a small entrance fee to cover costs but the more interest the cheaper it will be, £10 probably for both.
  • Wave
Starting from October we will be running a wave series consisting of 3 seperate days riding at the best spots possible around the county. The format will be wave jam style (as the windsurfers use) where you get an alloted time to perform and the rest of the riders judge and decide who wins/goes through to next heat.
The Jam will happen only on good forecasts which will be decided on thursdays to run either sat or sun with the actual location being decided on the day and format depending on numbers/conditions but all wave events will be filmed to avoid any arguements on who is ripping the best!
Register by emailing chairman@kernowkitesurfclub.co.uk ,subject -wave event and include contact details (mobile no.) and KKC member no.
Your best 2 results will count towards the Kernow Wave Cup with prizes for top 3, ladies/juniors (if enough entrants) and various others. There will be a small entrance fee to cover costs but the more interest the cheaper it will be, £10 probably at most.

Overall prizes and videos will be awared at our party/agm in Jan 2010.
If anyone wants to video and has a good camera, please let me know.

Beach Meet Up - Sunday 6th December, Perranporth

Nice to have seen so many of us on the beach. Good effort considering it was up to and over 30 knots, rained at times and not that warm. There were regularly over 10 kiters on the water and a few peole with cameras helping with the mulled wind and mince pies. If you have any photos etc, send them in to rory@kernowkitesurfclub.co.uk for the Web site.

The next event is going to be in the first few months onf 2010 and aims to link in with the club AGM.

Don't forget, if you want to be kept updated by text, send your mobile number to treasurer@kernowkitesurfclub.co.uk.
