Lewis Crathern Big Air Clinic

With a squirrely forecast there was a nervous run in to our Pro coaching event with Lewis Crathern.

The forecast wind strength and direction was constantly changing but as the various forecast models started to improve, we hit the green light, and the event was on.

Faith in the wind gods was rewarded with a good breeze on Saturday morning and everybody ready to go at 9 am sharp, fueled by a “Life Changing Coffe” from Angus at the Hoxton Special who had opened early to especially for the clinic. Lewis kicked off proceedings with a demo already providing several top tips to improve peoples jumping ability.

Then all eight clinic participants got onto the water under Lewis’s watchful eye and he spent valuable time with each rider giving them individual advice, tuning tips and encouragement to improve their game.

Peter Stephens and Alex Simmons from solution Cornwall were also on hand with the latest Duotone kite kit available for demo and several people took advantage of the opportunity.

Not surprisingly after a good two or three hours on the water everyone was done in, which was handy because the wind at that point was starting to drop as forecast.

We retired to Angus’s cafĂ©, the Hoxton special where he provided much needed coffee and toasties for those who needed to refuel. Lewis held an informal Q&A session in the cafe again giving some great nuggets of advice on kit choice safety and equipment set up.

Everyone headed home to grab a shower before meeting again at the tap room in Hayle where St. Ives brewery make their very successful beers and have a bar and table area open to the public. Marco from the brewery had sorted us with some reserved tables and an area where we could hold a fun pub quiz obviously Kite surfing related hosted by Lewis. It was a close run competition with only a few points separating the top three teams. With with the quiz complete and smiles all round those that haven’t already eaten enjoyed a fresh curry provided by Ruby Jones which came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint.

All of the participants agreed that it was a very valuable exercise and well worth the investment so we are looking at setting up further coaching events.
